Exclusive interview with
Cathy Johnston VP International Miami Boat Show
The
International Miami Boat Show is globally recognized and works hand in hand
with the National Marine Manufacturers Association ( NMMA ), which is the main
trade association of the marine industry. Miami Beach attracts millions
of visitors who invest in Miami every year. And among them, there are thousands
and thousands of boater lovers who are present at Boat Shows annually. There are
also a vast number of Floridian residents who enjoy the ocean view daily from
their luxury homes and beachfront condos. Most of them are connected
to boating and that is why they never miss a Boat Show in Miami.
According
to Cathy Johnston, VP Southern Shows representative of NMMA, the Miami Boat
Show attracts people from every state within the US, South and Central America,
Canada, Europe and Asia. "More than 145,000 people from around the world
attend the Miami International Boat Show. Over 80 different countries are represented",
she said. Adding that a big number of celebrities attended the show in prior years:
former President George W. Bush, Jimmy Buffet, Lenny Kravitz, Nick Carter, O Town,
Tim Allen, Julio Iglesias and Bob Denver.
Johnston also made clear that
boat shows provide consumers with a one-stop source for learning about boating,
seeing, touching and testing a range of products (including boats, personal watercraft,
electronics and accessories). Consumers also have the opportunity to visit the
NMMA's Discover Boating Center, where they can learn about the boating lifestyle
and receive unbiased, brand-neutral advice on selecting the right boat to fit
their lifestyles. In addition, Cathy Johnston stated that boat shows offer consumers
an opportunity to mingle with fellow boaters and hone their boating and fishing
skills at seminars.
It is true that although there are other Boat Shows
in Minneapolis, Baltimore and Louisville, the most highlighted is the Miami Boat
Show. Why? "Dubbed the Greatest Boat Show in the World", Cathy Johnston
said. "The Miami Show is the one of the world's largest consumer marine exhibitions
bringing together the widest variety of new boats, engines and marine accessories
at three easy-to-access locations in Miami. It features boats and accessories
for every budget and lifestyle -from canoes to sport fishing boats to luxury cruisers-
from more than 2,400 exhibitors. The Miami Show educates prospective boaters and
attracts qualified buyers to generate significant sales and future leads for exhibitors.
The Miami Show sets the barometer for national boat sales, and it anchors the
busiest weekend in South Florida providing a significant boost to the local economy.
Locally, it supports 9,030 full-time jobs and generates more than $817.8 million
annually in gross sales and wages in Florida.
If you are a first time visitor,
Cathy Johnston has this to say: "The Miami Boat Show offers something for
everyone, from experienced boaters to individuals interested in experiencing life
on the water. A visit to the Discover Boating Center in the Miami Beach Convention
Center is a must for first-time buyers. Here, consumers can learn about the various
types of boats, buying, financing and insuring a boat, boating safety and where
to boat, fish and enjoy the water. Visitors can also participate in seminars at
the Convention Center or take sea trials of boats docked at the Sea Isle Marine".
